Andre Rowe was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1974. He has been a long-time student of photography since he was nine. Andre began to develop his early appreciation of photography from his father Frank Rowe, an accredited photographer himself for over 40 years. Until the age thirteen, Andre spent his informal years learning the fundamental basics of photographic art. He wisely spent his time cultivating an essential familiarity with the classical forms of expressions and the important principles of lighting.
By 1994, at age twenty, Andre had exhausted every available photography class from high school right through to college. He was already fully knowledgeable in the functions of most camera formats and darkroom procedures. With his solid foundation, all that was needed was for Andre to set his focus on a field of photography that would continue to inspire and motivate him throughout his career. That choice was Fashion & Beauty.
Some photographers are artists. Others are excellent technicians. Andre is both an artist and a technical expert in all areas of photography. He is as comfortable in front of a computer as behind a camera
Andre remains up-to-date by acquiring the newest photographic technology. He has a complete range of camera equipment, lighting (for the effects that set him apart from “average” photographers…see examples above) and tripods that allow him the versatility to handle any assignment, whether it be in the studio or on exotic, remote locations.
On most of his assignments Andre prefers using medium format cameras with transparency films, from which he orders Pro Scans from our laboratory (which he then submits to magazines or clients for publication). Recently, Andre has been impressed by some of the more advanced digital cameras, including Leica’s new R9 SLR with a 10 megapixel digital back.
Andre’s goal is to always remain poised to tackle virtually any project that his imagination (or clients) can conceive. As you look at his web page you’ll see just how well he succeeds!
